Notes July 28, 2008

The Topper Worlds have been and gone. It was an enormous undertaking for the club but thanks to the hard work of the organising committee and volunteers was a tremendous success. Virtually ever member contributed in some way but special recognition must go to Brendan Fitzgerald who chaired the organising committee. Local sailors featured prominently with Daniel Browne making the Gold fleet and Michael Lynch the leading TBSC sailor in the silver fleet just ahead of Mark Taylor who won two races on the last day of the event. The overall winner was Eliot Hanson from the UK and the best Irish sailor was Philip Doran who was 4th overall. Full results and photographs are available on our website www.traleebaysailingclub.com.

Keelboat racing continued during the week with two races but no results are available as the computer was in constant use for the Toppers!

Dinghy racing resumed on Saturday afternoon with two races over a triangular course set by OD Ian Magowan. It was quite windy and a few sailors returned to shore before racing started. In race one Des Fitzgeral stormed away from the fleet to win well from Ciara Browne and Michael Lynch. Des won again form Ciara in the second race but this time it was Liam Lynch in third. The sailors who stayed out had a tough time but enjoyed some fantastic reaches as the lasers in particular screamed along, there were even one or two spectacular capsizes. In the Optimist fleet Sophie Browne had a great day with two wins from Louise Magowan and Niamh Hickey.

Normal club racing now resumes for the next few weeks but we still have the Optimist Nationals in August to look forward to. Volunteers are still needed for some areas so dont be surprised if Brendan or one of his team catch up with you!
