THE committee are working hard on improving the clubs facilities and appearance. Recent and upcoming changes include the resurfacing of the dinghy park which has now been lined and will shortly have steel tie-down points for securing dinghies. The lower gate is about to be replaced with an electronically controlled unit and a similar unit will be placed at the main entrance. The plumbing has been troublesome for years and this year will be upgraded to improve the water supply and showers. We also intend to tidy up and paint our western boundary area on the seafront and improve the shrubs around the front door. Don’t be surprised if you are asked to help, you could even volunteer! The committee are very aware that a number of other areas need attention but there is only so much that can be done in a year.
Damian Foxall
20.00 hrs on Monday 21st Apr 2008 .
Honary Club member Damian Foxall fresh from his historic win as co-captain of Paprec-Virbac 2 in the Barcelona World Race visited the club @ 8 pm on Monday 21st Apr 08 to give a talk. ON Monday night last we were privileged to have Damian Foxall, Ireland’s greatest racing sailor, visit the club and give a talk about his recent win in the Barcelona Race. A capacity crowd were entranced by his description of the boat and the race. Even though he made light of the hardships involved it was obvious that it was a gruelling event which tested man and boat to their limits. The club was delighted to have the opportunity to present him with a relief map of his home grounds in the Kenmare River from Latitiude of Kinsale. Damian has now completed seven round the world races and is going back for more next year when he joins the Irish entry in the Volvo race. We wish him the very best of luck.
