THE ILA end of season regatta was held in Fenit on the weekend of Sat 30th/Sun 1st. A total of 52 boats over three fleets took part with sailors coming from as far away as Dublin , Cork and Wexford. There was a strong local entry with 11 TBSC members among the entries.
RACING took place to the southwest of the harbour. A trapezoid course was used with the standard and 4.7 fleets using an outer loop and the radial fleet sailing on the inner loop. This worked very well and allowed good racing to be had on a single course set up. The PRO Peter Moore did a great job in difficult conditions, particularly on Sunday, and each fleet completed 5 races prior to Sunday afternoon’s medal race. The medal race featured the top ten in each fleet, counted for double points and was not discardable.
IN the standard fleet Rory Fitzpatrick (RIYC) was back on top form to win well but could only finish second overall, the winner of the standard fleet was Peter O’Leary ( Baltimore ) who with four race wins was well ahead of the fleet. Third place went to Thomas Chaix (LEYC) who is well known to all of our Optimist sailors. The top master was Mark Mulrooney (TBSC) and best junior went to Ronan Wallace from Wexford.
THE radial medal race was won by our own Patrick Moore with Des Fitzgerald a very close second. Overall honours went to Aidan McLaverty (KYC) with three race wins. Patrick’s win in the medal race lifted him to second overall and Des was third. In the ladies radial event the winner was Viviane Chaix, with Sarah Ebrill (Wexford) second and Jenny Kingston (KYC) third.

THE 4.7 medal race went to Scott Flanagan (HYC) who finished second overall with Peter Bermingham (KYC) in first place with three race wins and two seconds. Third place went to Cian O’Regan (KYC) in his first Laser event. Best lady was our own Maeve Counihan.
